Beyond Birth.
A narrative instrument built for the Medical College of Wisconsin that changed clinical behavior and entered the scientific record.
OB-GYN clinicians and community-based doulas were facing difficulties collaborating, not for lack of evidence, but for lack of a story that made the evidence felt. The Medical College of Wisconsin had the research. What it needed was a cinematic form that could carry that research into clinical spaces and move the people inside them.
JMC developed the narrative strategy and produced the film from concept through final cut. The vignette was designed to work on two audiences simultaneously: affirming the lived authority of doula practitioners while shifting the posture of clinicians trained to respond to evidence, not emotion. It did both. Phase I is concluded. The film is not under peer review for academic publication. The infrastructure it created is not finished.
